Platform Overview

About ShiftPerak

ShiftPerak is an independent platform focused on practical digitalisation, business improvement and economic opportunities in Perak.

It looks at how businesses, organisations and major developments can use digital technology more effectively to improve operations, customer experience, competitiveness and growth.

The Core Philosophy

“Digitalisation should make businesses and organisations better, not simply add more technology.”

The focus is therefore not on technology for its own sake, but on where digital systems, automation, data and better digital experiences can solve real problems and create measurable value.

Ahmad Safwan

Founder, ShiftPerak

My background is in digital marketing, digital platforms and business growth.

Over the years, I have worked with digital businesses and organisations across Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and the United States, helping them grow through digital strategy, websites, customer acquisition, content, technology and digital experiences.

Working across different markets has exposed me to different business models, customer expectations and approaches to digital growth. It has also shaped how I look at digitalisation.

Technology alone rarely creates the outcome. The value comes from how well the technology is connected to the business, the customer journey and the wider operating environment.

Why I Started ShiftPerak

I started ShiftPerak because I see significant economic and digital potential in Perak, but there is often a gap between high-level digital ambitions and how those ambitions translate into practical outcomes for businesses and organisations.

Perak continues to attract investment, develop industrial areas, modernise public services and encourage businesses to adopt technology. But successful digitalisation requires more than launching another platform, website or system. It requires understanding:

  • the problem being solved
  • how people actually use the service
  • how different systems and organisations connect
  • whether the solution improves operations
  • whether it creates meaningful business or economic value

ShiftPerak is my way of exploring those questions and contributing practical ideas around how Perak can become more digitally mature.

An Independent Perspective

ShiftPerak is an independent initiative. It is not part of the Perak State Government, Digital Perak, InvestPerak or any government agency.

Where ShiftPerak discusses public projects, policies or major developments, the aim is to contribute constructive analysis and practical ideas based on publicly available information. The purpose is not simply to point out what is missing. It is to ask: What could make this work better?

That may involve improving a digital experience, connecting fragmented processes, making information easier to use, creating stronger business participation or identifying opportunities that have not yet been fully developed.

What ShiftPerak Focuses On

ShiftPerak explores areas where technology intersects with business and economic growth in the state:

Business digitalisation Digital customer experiences Automation and AI Industrial and investment digital experiences Public-service digitalisation Digital ecosystems Economic development Technology adoption Digital maturity

The focus is always on the same question:

How can digitalisation create a better outcome?

That means looking beyond whether a new platform, system or technology exists. The more important questions are whether people can use it easily, whether it improves how an organisation operates, whether different parts of the experience connect properly and whether it creates real value.

From Digital Tools to Digital Maturity

A business or organisation can have many digital tools and still have a fragmented experience. The goal should be to move from isolated digital tools towards better-connected experiences, processes and systems.

The Trap of Digital Tools

  • A website sits separately from an internal system.
  • An application process is online but difficult to complete.
  • Different departments collect the same information independently.
  • Businesses have access to technology without gaining operational value from it.

True Digital Maturity

  • For businesses: improving operations, customer journeys and decision-making.
  • For major developments: creating better investor and business experiences.
  • For public services: making services easier to access, use and complete.
  • At a wider level: stronger connections between businesses, people and government.

That is why ShiftPerak looks at digital maturity, not simply digital adoption.

From Analysis to Implementation

ShiftPerak is not only about analysis and articles. The longer-term goal is to work with businesses, organisations and institutions that want to improve how they operate, serve customers or deliver digital experiences.

That can include:

Digital strategy
Websites & digital platforms
Workflow digitalisation
Automation
AI applications
Customer & investor journeys
Data & system integration
User experience & Info Architecture
Digital ecosystem design
Ongoing digital operations

The Approach is Straightforward

Understand the business problem first, then decide what technology is actually needed.

Sometimes the answer may be a new platform.

Sometimes it may be improving an existing system.

Sometimes it may simply mean connecting processes that already exist.

The technology should follow the problem, not the other way around.

Why Perak

Perak has significant strengths. It has established industries, growing investment, major development projects, universities and training institutions, tourism assets, local businesses and a large population spread across both urban and rural areas.

That creates many opportunities for digitalisation. But Perak does not need technology simply because another state, country or organisation is using it. The stronger approach is to understand what makes sense for Perak itself.

What problems need solving?
Where are businesses losing time or opportunity?
Where are people experiencing unnecessary friction?
Where can better digital experiences strengthen investment?
Where could local businesses participate more effectively in economic growth?
Where can technology make existing systems work better rather than simply adding another layer?

Those are the kinds of questions ShiftPerak is interested in.

Building Better Digital Outcomes for Perak

ShiftPerak exists to explore how digitalisation can contribute to better business, economic and public outcomes in Perak. The aim is not to promote technology for its own sake.

It is to identify where digitalisation can create practical value and where stronger digital thinking can help Perak businesses, organisations and major developments move forward.
